Our Sprouts class is a small, mixed-age grouping of three to five-year-old children. This class is limited to a group of eight children, providing the teacher-mentor with the opportunity to individualize the learning experience for each child.
Our Sprouts students engage in play-based activities incorporating practical life skills, sensorial awareness, mathematics, language, science, and geographic knowledge. In addition, we incorporate inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach which values creativity, self expression, and a sense of membership in a cohesive community of learners. Social emotional aspects are a vital part of our learning approach, not just a supplemental aspect of the program. Therapist-guided “nurture groups” focus on developing mindfulness, self regulation, problem solving and conflict resolution
Much of our day is spent immersed in nature-based activities outdoors, with ample time for free exploration and discoveries. Children have daily opportunities for open exploration and self-expression using a wide variety of artistic materials as well as opportunities to engage in self and teacher-directed learning activities on topics of interest to the children in the group. We also incorporate developmentally appropriate academic programs such as the Get Set for School curriculum which focuses on small-group lessons in language, handwriting and math. These lessons are taught in small groups with mastery-based levels rather than arbitrary age based segregation. Each child also has the opportunity to work individually with our reading coach daily on letter recognition and phonics-based reading activities.
Our Sprouts class runs Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM-Noon. Extended care is available between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM at additional cost.
