Our seedlings class provides responsive educational programming for our youngest learners. This class is directed by a primary caregiver with a small group of four children ages 6 weeks to 18 months. Our approach for these young learners is primarily based on the concepts embodied by the RIE approach, which is based on respectful engagement with young children. We focus on building an authentic, trusting relationship between the child and their caregiver.
The classroom environment is carefully designed to provide children with age-appropriate developmental experiences focusing on freedom of movement and self-directed play, avoiding devices that restrict movement and prevent children from being able to actively explore the world around them. We incorporate toddler-appropriate Montessori materials that allow the children to develop self-care and practical life skills, gross motor and fine motor development, and cognitive processes like the development of object permanence skills. Toilet training is not required for this class group.
